Stunning Outdoor Shower

Installing a beautiful outdoor shower for a surfer mate in Newcastle

I had a mate come to me who is a keen surfer located close to Merewether Beach in Newcastle. He needed an outdoor shower to wash the bucket loads of sand away before coming into the house.... his partner is obviously very happy with me.

Opting for a classic copper piping look and feel, the outcome was a stunning blend of modern and traditional which is now a feature to the property.

This one is a little bit closer to home. Last week my brother in-law called me with a really shi**y problem, or at least he thought it was. With the downstairs sink now longer draining away and smelling a tat terrible he had tried to clear the drains in order to have the water flowing freely. Not to mention, the smell was terrible, nothing 1000 burnt matches could ever get rid of. After using drain-o and the pipes still not clearing away into the Newcastle sewer system my thought was maybe something more sinister was at play. But in circumstances when a sink wont drain, the best advice is to eliminate the easiest fixes. My brother didn't have a plunger on hand so I headed around there to investigate the smelly sink. Sure enough, with a good plunge the sink instantly was unblocked and the water began to drain away.... this still didnt fix the terrible smell. This is because the blockage had caused all the; skin, hair and god knows what else that had been stuck to the sides of the pipes to come back up into the sink.... how wonderful. Dont stress, if this happens to you there are some basic home remedies that will have the pipes smelling wonderful in no time. Baking Soda and Vinegar This is the most common and effective method used to get rid of bad odours in your drains. Follow these steps: Pour hot water down the drain which will loosen any gunk. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain and let it rest for a few minutes. This allows the hot water and baking soda mixture to work on eroding the grime. Mix one cup of vinegar and a cup of boiling water and pour it down the sink. This results in a chemical reaction which loosens any remaining debris. Cover the drain with a plug or sponge which lets the chemical reaction do its thing below the surface of the drain. Leave it for 5-10 minutes. Finish off by pouring another cup of boiling hot water which will wash away any lingering grime. Repeat the process if necessary. Boiling Water and Vinegar: Pour half a pot of almost boiling water and vinegar down the drain. Wait a few minutes and rinse the sink with cold water. Pour the rest of the vinegar and hot water mixture down the sink. Remove Mould: Mix baking soda and hot water together until it creates a paste. Use an old toothbrush to apply it to the drain and let it sit for 10 minutes. Scrub the drain with the toothbrush until the mould begins to disintegrate. Pour boiling water down the drain. Pour a cup of water and half a cup of baking soda down the drain. Why does the baking soda and vinegar solution work best? Baking soda reacts well with boiling water and kills odours. Vinegar contains acetic acid which neutralises any smells. Environmentally friendly (natural and non-toxic). Everyday items are already found in homes. When mixed together they form carbon dioxide and sodium acetate (bubbles). which effectively scrub the drain. Your Drain Still Blocked? Don't stress Bryce at Graetz Plumbing in Newcastle will have you unblocked and pipes flowing in no time at all.
